EMERGE 2-Day College Access Event

Middletown, CT – On Monday and Tuesday, June 1and 2, 2015, The New England Counselors of Color Bridging Access to College (NECBAC) hosted students and counselors from EMERGE-HISD (EMERGE – Houston Independent School District) at Wesleyan University for a two-day college access event.

The event kicked off on Monday evening with seventy-five rising seniors from various high schools in the Houston Independent School District joining admissions representatives from over twenty member institutions for an interactive college fair.

After getting an introduction to specific member institutions, students then split into groups of twenty-five on Tuesday morning for forty-minute long breakout sessions. Topics included study abroad, residential life and extracurriculars in college, essay writing tips, and the value of the liberal arts education in the 21st century. Admissions representatives from Amherst College, Bates College, Bowdoin College, Connecticut College, Emmanuel College, Middlebury College, Saint Michael’s College, Simmons College, Southern New Hampshire University, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and Wesleyan University led these sessions. Click here for entire article.
